The Eternals – Review

Marvel has done very well when it comes to their movies. They seem to get hit after hit. Unfortunately, the Eternals was not one of them, doing the worst of most of their movies.
What did I think?
I thought it was pretty good, although not without its flaws. In many ways, this was a transition movie that helps set up some of the future movies. The role of the Celestials will likely be important for the future.
Generally, superhero movies are only as good as their villain(s). Marvel has done well with their villains but what about the Eternals? Who exactly were the bad guys? While it is set up as a battle between the Eternals and the Deviants, they were not the bad guys. Even if they were, they were not that interesting. The lack of a clear villain hurt the movie.
The movie was large in scope, taking place over thousands of years. Some of the flashbacks were confusing and took away from the main story.
The team was definitely the most diverse of anything else we have seen before from Marvel. The characters included different ethnicities, genders, as well as one gay and one deaf character.
Overall it was a decent movie and I enjoyed the ending. Unfortunately, one of the most exciting parts were the after credit scenes with the introductions of Star Fox and Black Knight (and Blade).
Is Eternals worth watching? I think so, especially if you want to follow the linked story that is taking place in the MCU. Plus it is a good movie even if it is not Marvel’s best.
