Stargirl: Season One – Review
One of the CW series that I was interested in was Stargirl. The reason is that I was overly familiar with Stargirl but I feel great nostalgia for much of the backstory.
Before there was a Justice League of America, there was a Justice Society of America. Stargirl begins with the death of the JSA at the hands of the Injustice Society of America, especially that of Starman. Dying, Starman passes on his cosmic staff to his sidekick, Stripesy (Pat Dugan).
Fast forward and Pat has gotten married and created a family with his son and his wife’s daughter. His step-daughter, Courtney, finds the staff and it mysteriously starts working for her.
Courtney and Pat discover that the ISA is active in their small town and have a nefarious plan. Courtney, against Pat’s wishes, begins to gather a new JSA from among other teens with equipment left from the deceased members.
Overall, I enjoyed the first season. Yes, some of the characters can get annoying but that is part of teenage life. The truth is, teens becoming superheroes would be a mess.
Many of these characters would be obscure to many watchers but I enjoyed seeing all of the old characters I was familiar with from my years of reading comics. I also enjoyed seeing the development of the relationship between Courtney and Pat.
I do think that Stargirl was one of the better of the CW shows and I look forward to watching the next season.
