The Flash: Season 6 – Review
I have been watching the Flash since the beginning of the series. In fact, it is the only one of the CW series that I have watched all the episodes. And now I have watched season six.
I was disappointed.
It was not all bad. I really, really liked the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. That was one of the funnest superhero events on television.
Previous seasons of the Flash have had a main villain to anchor it. In many ways, this season was two half seasons divided by the crossover.
The first part was an ongoing conflict between Team Flash and Ramsey Rosso / Bloodwork. I just didn’t find Ramsey that interesting of a villain. Sure, he created zombies, but overall he was rather flat.
The other part of the first half was Barry’s anticipation of his death during Crisis. This has been hinted at since the first season. And the Barry Allen Flash did die in the comic version of Crisis. But of course things worked out and Barry survived.
The second part of the season had two things going on. One was the destruction of the Speed Force, the source of Flash’s powers. This leads to a gradual loss of those powers.
The other part was a conflict with McCulloch Tech that leads to Iris being trapped in a mirror universe. That brings about Eva McCulloch, a new villain with powers similar to the Mirror Master.
There was a lot going on in this season. Add in the introduction of Sue Dearbon (who marries Ralph in the comics) and it just gets to be messy. It was a scattered season. It had its moments but was not near the quality of earlier seasons.
It will be interesting how they mover forward in season seven now that the actor who played Ralph Dibny / Elongated Man has been fired.
