Replicas – Review
I was scrolling through Netflix and came across a movie that starred Keanu Reeves and was science fiction. How could you go wrong? Well, Replicas went wrong.
I kept looking at Keanu Reeves and thinking I was mistaken. This didn’t seem like the kind of movie that he would be in, at least at this point in his career. But it was him.
It really felt like a low budget B movie that just happened to star Reeves. While the overall plot had some potential, there were plot holes that you could sail a ship through.
The basic story is that Reeves is a scientist who is working on transferring human identity, including memories, from a dead body. It just so happens that his entire family is killed in a car accident. It also just so happens that his associate has the technology to clone human bodies, into which he can put their memories.
I don’t want to make it sound that this is just a really bad movie that Reeves had just happened to be stuck in. Reeves’s acting fits the rest of the movie. In other words, his acting is just as bad. This didn’t seem to be the same Reeves from the Matrix and John Wick movies.
There were twists and turns as the movie went on. Normally this helps, but in this case it just strained the credibility more and more.
If you have not watched Replicas yet, don’t bother. Rewatch the Matrix movies, yes even the sequels, rather than this mess.
