The Walking Dead: World Beyond – Season One
As a Walking Dead fan, I was surprised that I hadn’t realized that there was another spinoff. I made sure to watch the World Beyond as soon as I could.
What did I think about it? That’s complicated.
It definitely did not grab me the way the original series or Fear the Walking Dead did. It really doesn’t have the same feel to it, although it is closely tied to the other series.
The reason it feels different is that it focuses on a much smaller group of characters. Not only that, these teenagers have been protected from the dead for the last ten years, and yet the apocalypse is at the same point as the other series. This is why they struggle against even a few walkers, when in the other series, usually a dozen walkers are not much of a threat.
The World Beyond is more about the four teenagers than about anything else. The series examines the circumstances that made them who they are. There is more character development in ten episodes Thant in multiples seasons of the other series.
The World Beyond is not for everyone and some people will want more action. But I enjoyed it. It actually felt a bit more realistic than the others. These teens are not superheroes but young people with baggage who are struggling with their circumstances.
