Good News: Thankful For My Daughter
Yesterday was our daughter Abby’s 19th birthday. Unfortunately, we were not able to make it to her group home for her birthday. This could easily be a bad news rather than a good news post.
But I choose to focus not on what was missed but on what we have. I am so thankful for Abby. She is an amazing daughter and we love her so much.
It is true that I wish that things had worked out differently. Because of her autism, she lives in a group home and she is not able to communicate verbally with us. I’m not saying that autism is a tragedy but there are things that we grieve as parents.
Still, we have a good relationship with Abby. We have no doubts about her love for us and I hope she has no doubts about our love for her. She brings such joy to our lives and there are always lots of smiles. Often a smile can communicate more than words.
While I wish some circumstances were different, I would never trade Abby in for anyone else. She is my daughter and I love her very much.
