Two Books on Paul
I have read two of the books that I bought at ETS/SBL. The first is Michael F. Bird’s Introducing Paul. The book is exactly what the title suggests, an introduction to Paul. Bird looks at all the basics including the background, letters and summary of theology. It is not overly detailed, but it is good for pastors, interested laypeople and undergrads. It is very readable and is illustrated with numerous popular allusions. Well worth reading.
The second book was N.T. Wright’s Paul. I highly recommend this book. Like Bird’s book, it deals with the basics, but in more detail. Wright takes us on a tour of passages that we might feel that we are familiar with and breathes fresh perspectives in them. If you are interested in the New Testament or Paul, you need to read this book.
