Werewolf By Night – Review
Marvel has been pushing a lot of content recently, especially in terms of television shows on Disney +. Some of them have been better than others. One of the best recent shows has been Werewolf By Night.
This is not a television series or exactly a movie, but more of a special like we used to see in previous years of television.
The basic plot is that a group of monster hunters have gathered at a mysterious location to hunt a monster known as Man-Thing. Unknown to the host or the other hunters, one of them is also a werewolf and thus technically a monster.
Jack Russell, the werewolf, is there not to hunt Man-Thing, but to free his friend (that he prefers to call Ted). Jack finds an unlikely ally in his endeavour.
This was such a fun show. Not only was it an enjoyable tale set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which introduced some characters from the comics, but it was presented in a creative way.
The story is done in the style of the old horror movies from the 1950s. This includes, but is not limited to, it being filmed (mostly) in black and white. As someone who enjoyed those old shows, this nostalgic feel was a lot of fun.
Both the werewolf and Man-Thing were interesting characters that made me want to see more of them. They had an intriguing friendship that was funny, but not the slapstick humour that we often get.
Werewolf By Night was a great watch. I had no expectations going in, but having watched it, I was happy I had put the time in. It was one of the best things I have seen from Marvel in a while.
Even if you are not invested in the MCU or a fan of the comics, Werewolf By Night succeeds as a stand alone piece of entertainment.
