Wheel of Time: Season One – Review
I heard some amazing things about Wheel of Time, with comparisons to Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Since I like fantasy stories, I was more than willing to watch it.
I will confess that I was disappointed. I did not find it all that interesting. I suspect that much of my reaction was because I have never read the books. As I watched it, I kept thinking that this must be how people who have never read the book feel while watching Dune.
It is not that it was completely terrible. There were numerous parts of the mythology that seemed intriguing. I like the basic premise of the Dragon reborn being one of the five young people. But even then, I struggled to feel invested in the characters. Many of them did not seem all that likeable.
But I often found myself getting bored. Again, it is probably because I am unfamiliar with all of the background. Having said that, I did stick with it for all eight episodes. The short season helped. I don’t know if I could have done it if it was twenty-five episode season.
There was enough interesting that I have decided to tray at least the first book. I have tended to enjoy the books better than the live action anyway.
