William Joyce – Lord Haw-Haw
One of the most infamous Nazi collaborators was American born William Joyce, better known by his nickname “Lord Haw-Haw.” Joyce moved from America to Ireland and then to England, before moving to Germany in 1940, becoming a German citizen.
Joyce, before arriving in Germany, had already joined the British Union of Fascists. It was no surprise that he would be drawn to Germany.
Joyce did not sit idly during the war. He became first a newsreader and then a propaganda broadcaster aimed at Britain. Propaganda was a major part of the Nazi war effort.
Things did not work out well for the Nazis or Joyce. His final broadcast was during the Battle for Berlin. He was captured by the Allies and became the last person executed for treason in the UK.
