10 Things You Might Not Know About Me

How well do you know me? The readers of this blog are a mix of people who know me and complete strangers. I’m pretty open about who I am, but there is probably a lot that you don’t know.

Here are ten things you may or may not know about me.

1. As a young person, becoming a minister was the least likely future occupation for me.
2. For a long time, I really wanted to be an archaeologist.
3. Until about a year ago, I owned thousands of comic books.
4. As a child, I badly wanted to join the army. In my 40s, I served as a chaplain for four years in the army reserves.
5. The first album I ever bought (both as a record and a cassette) was Iron Maiden’s The Number of the Beast..
6. Our oldest child was originally going to be named Luke. I ruined it by telling my wife that I was going to hold him in the delivery room and in my best Darth Vader voice say, “Luke, I am your father.” His name is now Logan.
7. I once spent a night in a Mexican jail.
8. I had at one time started the process to become credentialed as a pastor with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada.
9. My first time getting drunk was as a teenager at a wine and cheese gathering at an Anglican church.
10. I have read Lord of the Rings close to ten times.
