Foundation: Seasons 1 and 2 – Review
I am always on the lookout for good science fiction and one of the highly recommended series was Foundation. I need to say at the outset that I have not read the books, although I am just starting to read the first book in the series. I understand that it does not stay close to the novels.
The premise is that there is an interstellar empire ruled by three clones (of different ages) of the first emperor. A mathematician using “psycho-history” has calculated the fall of the empire. That causes a lot of issues.
It would be difficult for me to summarize all of the events of the first two seasons. What I can say is that it happens over centuries and it involves people trying to anticipate all of the events that are a part of the predicted trajectory of the empire.
The first thing I want to say is that it is beautifully shot. The special effects are better than many big budget movies. The acting is also top notch. I especially like the different portrayals of the emperor clones (Dawn, Day, and Dusk).
If you are looking for a simple story, Foundation is not for you. I would describe Foundation as a cross between Dune and Star Wars with a bit of Battlestar Galactica thrown in for good measure.
It is a wide ranging epic that has an immense back story that is only touched on. I thoroughly enjoyed it on many issues. It is filled not just with action and special effects but reflections on ethics, philosophy, religion, and so much more.
I am very much looking forward to the third season. Meanwhile, I will start reading the books.
