Good News: Getting Some Writing Done
What do you do for self-care? For many people, it is about putting aside anything that takes too much thinking and relaxing with something distracting.
For myself, nothing recharges me like writing. And when I say writing, I don’t mean light fluffy stuff. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I’m talking the academic writing that many people seek to avoid.
I have a number of papers that I have presented at conferences in the past that I have been meaning to turn into journal articles. I also have some ideas based on the areas of research that I am interested in that have been rolling around in my brain.
Recharging for me is taking some of these things and turning them into something that can be submitted. Does that sound like fun? Probably not.
But setting a goal for myself and then working through it and seeing the end result is incredibly satisfying. Even if it is a topic that other people might find dry, it is something that gets me going.
This is the thing about self-care, other people do not have to understand it or appreciate it. Self-care is about doing what is needed for that person, not to do what everyone else expects.
So I am thankful for the writing projects that I have started. I am also thankful for some of the other projects I have ideas for. Of course I only have so much time and I do have other commitments. But none of these things have a real deadline and so they can be plugged away with as opportunities come.
This is my Good News.
