Good News: Grateful for Amanda as a Mother
Yesterday was Mother’s Day. Of course it made me think of my own mother, who was wonderful and who I am very thankful for. But it also makes me think of Amanda and the incredible mother she is to our children.
I know that Amanda hates being lifted up as “super-mom” and I will try not to drift into that temptation. But she is pretty incredible.
Very often on Mother’s Day, we think of the most traditional forms of motherhood and how women may fit those molds. However, our family is far from traditional and in many ways is quite messy.
Amanda would be the first to say that she is not the perfect parent, which only makes me respect her humility more. But Amanda has risen to the challenge of our family dynamic and I am so incredibly thankful for her.
One of our children has admitted to me: “Dad, no offence as you are good dad, but mom is my biggest support.” And I was not offended at all.
Amanda is there for all our kids, not necessarily with all the answers but with a fierce support no matter what they are going through. She I present with them and allows them to be themselves, even if we do not fully understand what is going on.
On this day after Mother’s Day, I am grateful for Amanda as a mother.
