Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire – Review
I have been enjoying the Monsterverse movies and overall feel like it is one of the better attempts at a shared universe for recent movie franchises. Of course the primary characters of the Monsterverse are Godzilla and King Kong and they are brought together once more.
We have already had an epic fight between Godzilla and King Kong and so I was hoping that it would not just be more of that. Thankfully they only have a five minute fight and then it is time for them to team-up against the real bad guys.
Most of Godzilla x Kong takes place in the Hollow Earth, the place where most of the monsters live. In this movie, we get a wider view of this land including areas never before explored.
This could have been just a rehash of what we have seen before, not that this would make it a bad movie, but it does include some fresh materials. One of the main things is the exploring of the race of giant apes that King Kong comes from. Not to spoil anything, but we learn a lot more about Kong’s background.
I will say that this is not a very deep movie and audiences will not have their lives changed by watching it. It has been compared to superhero movies, probably as a critique, but I would say that it represents the most fun part of the superhero genre.
The people who created Godzilla x Kong understood what audiences want from monster and action movies and they give us what we want. There are numerous scenes that make the audience cheer (at least on the inside) as the good guys take care of the bad guys.
I consider Godzilla x Kong to be one of the better movies in the Monsterverse series and if you liked the previous movies, you will enjoy this one.
