Good News: Surviving the Pandemic
I can’t remember anything like the way things are right now with the COVID-19 pandemic. Even 9/11 wasn’t as disruptive to “normal” life as this pandemic. At least within my circle of life.
In terms of ministry, my work both as a local church pastor and as an army chaplain looks a lot different than it did just a few weeks ago. I’m being forced to be creative in what I do and how I do it.
Family life is a lot different as well. Our three youngest are home all the time and our two youngest we don’t get to see except on Skype.
This may sound like complaining but it isn’t. There are things that are hard but there is much good as well. I see both my congregation and my regiment adapting well to the crisis. As a family, we are handling things pretty good.
I’m actually hoping that some good things will happen out of this, things that couldn’t have happened if it was business as usual. Things that I have wanted to do are getting done. And there is also some unexpected time to rest and enjoy family. I’m experiencing Sabbath in new ways.
I’m praying that the pandemic ends soon and we can get back to a new kind of normal. But I also am praying that I get out of this crisis something that will make a better husband, father, pastor and padre.
