Good News: The Kids and Church
For many people, this pandemic has been really difficult in terms of church. People would rather be sitting together in a building worshiping than watching a worship service on a computer. But there is a bright side for some families.
At Queen Street Baptist Church, we post our worship service on our YouTube channel. It is something available to anyone, member or not. It also expands our geographical reach.
Two of our children have autism and live in a group home 1.5 hours away. Our son Logan loves church and was attending a church before the pandemic. He has only been able to join us at QSBC a couple of times.
The group home gave Logan the option to watch our services online, that way he can see mom and dad and still have church. He loves it! The workers have told us that he really enjoys it.
This past Sunday, our daughter Abby joined Logan in watch church. This is a huge thing. Abby probably hasn’t had church, in any form, for around ten years. While some may think virtual church is a poor substitute, it is still a fantastic accomplishment.
By the way, this is one of the reasons that I hope that churches don’t give up on online church after they start meeting in person again. Online church is just as much a part of accessibility as ramps and elevator.
So, while we were not in the same building, we were able to worship with our kids in some way and it was such a blessing. Thanks go to the workers at the home that help this to happen.
