Good News: We Are Almost There
After a long process of looking at properties, we are extremely close to taking possession of our cottage. We have no waived conditions and we are trying to work out with our lawyer an earlier closing than the original August 30. We did our final walk through today.
Why in the world are we buying a cottage?
To be honest, we have always wanted a cottage but it was always out of reach. Living in Ontario, it was a stretch to purchase a home, muchness a cottage in addition.
We have not struck it rich but things have changed. We live in a parsonage operated by our church. We love our home and living in the parsonage is a real blessing.
But this means two things for us. One is that we do not have the expenses that would normally prohibit us from getting a cottage. The other is that living in a parsonage, we are not building equity, which is not ideal.
Property is one of the few things that grows in value over time and so it was important for us to get back into the market. Plus, the market is such in Nova Scotia that we could actually afford a cottage.
The attraction of a cottage is that we value time away as a family. A cottage is more than a financial investment, it is a relational and family investment.
Things have really fell into place with this purchase. We had pretty much given up on trying to buy something because of the bidding wars that would start. But then I saw this property with dragonflies prominently displayed. Dragonflies are Amanda’s “thing” and so we thought we would give it one more try.
You might be wondering where this cottage is. It is located in a community called Springfield. It is a small cottage but on a nice property and is very secluded and we have deeded access to a lake.
We look forward to making many memories in this place.
