The Dieppe Raid
The Soviets had been putting a lot of pressure on the Allies to open up another front in Europe to help with their fight against the Nazis. The Allies were not ready for a full invasion but perhaps there was something that could be done.
A raid was planned for Dieppe and the responsibility for this raid fell primarily to the Canadians. The Canadians had shown themselves to be game changers during the First World War, perhaps they could do it again.
Sadly, the raid did not go near as well as they had hoped. There are many theories about why and what, if any, lessons learned helped later in the war.
