Holy Cow! There is Another Autism Theory
I understand why people want to know what causes autism. It both gives a way to prevent and if that does not work, it at least gives something to point to in anger. The vaccine theory for autism is fast losing ground and so something has to take its place. One of the new theories is that of cow’s milk. Interestingly, the promotion of this theory is not coming from scientists or autism advocates. It is coming from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Here is a very good response to what PETA is doing. I agree with this article, that cow’s milk may make a small percentage of autistic children worse. The same may be true for vaccines. The same may be true for broccoli. People can react to anything but that does not prove a causal relationship. The claims by PETA are utter nonsense.
The thing that bothers me about PETA is their motivation. I do not for one minute believe that this campaign comes from a deep desire to help families with autism. It comes from a desire to get people to stop milking cows. The possible connection with autism is only a tool to use for their ultimate purposes. I don’t care what PETA thinks about milking cows. But my children are not a weapon for their crusade. If they want to argue against milking, do it for the sake of the cows and not for a pretended concern for children with autism.
