X-Men: Days of Future Past
Last night Amanda and I went to see X-Men: Days of Future Past (DOFP). X-Men has been an interesting movie franchise. The first X-Men was one of the first good superhero movies at the time and it paved the way for the current trend. Unfortunately, the X-Men movies began to deteriorate in quality. That is until X-Men: First Class, where there was a breath of fresh air both in story and special effects. The plan for DOFP was to bring together the best of the old and the new.
DOFP definitely succeeded in this goal. I was worried when I heard about the number of characters that were to be included in the movie. How could they work with so many and still keep a tight story? Although many characters make at least a brief appearance, most of the story revolves around Professor X, Beast, Magneto, Mystique and Wolverine.
There was so much about this movie that I enjoyed. I liked that Wolverine, although he was the link between the future and the past, was not the main character nor was he the one to save the day. I liked the development between the different generations of Professor X and Magneto. I liked that, although there was some great fight scenes, it was more story-based than action-based. I liked the emphasis on second chances and redemption. Perhaps the best part of the entire movie was Quicksilver. His scenes were some of the best scenes that I have seen in any superhero movie. He was very fun. It will be interesting to see how the Avengers deal with their own version of Quicksilver.
Is DOFP worth seeing? Definitely. Sure some of the time travel stuff is a bit confusing, but you do not have to understand everything about the timeline to appreciate the movie. If you have not seen the movie yet, make sure to go and see it.
