Review of Captain America: Civil War
I was able to get out to see Captain America: Civil War yesterday. The short review is I loved it. It was just a lot of fun. Lots of action, lots of laughs and I was not bored.
What did I like about it?
Well it was great to see so many heroes, especially those who have been newly introduced into the MCU. The interaction between them, whether fighting together or fighting against each other, was great for any comic book fan.
The introduction of the Black Panther was fantastic. One of the first Marvel comics I ever read was a reprint of a Jack Kirby drawn story of Captain America and Black Panther against Baron Zemo. I liked how they portrayed Black Panther, he was the definition of cool. I look forward to seeing what they do with him.
Then there was Spider-Man. I was not all that excited about a new reboot of Spider-Man, even though I was happy to hear that he was going to be able to interact in the MCU. But I loved this Spider-Man. He is a very fresh take on the character compared to the other cinematic versions. His banter during the battle was a lot of fun. The Star Wars scene was awesome.
We got to see some more of the Vision in this movie. My impression was that they were not sure what to do with him. He should have been able to do more in the battle to stop Team Captain America but they kind of just kept him off screen for much of it.
Ant-Man was great as always. It was nice to see him have a bigger role. (See what I did there?)
I have to say that Captain America: Civil War was a better Avengers movie than Avengers: Age of Ultron. In fact if I have a criticism, it is that this was an Avengers movie more than it was a Captain America movie. Still, it was really good.
This movie begs for a comparison with Batman v Superman. But that is a post for another day…
