3 Body Problem – Review

When I saw the ads for the television series, 3 Body Problem, my first thought was that this would be really bad or really good. I will tell you which one in a moment. But I do need to state that I have neither read the novel or seen the Chinese version of the series.
I will get right to the bottom line and say that I really liked the series. Human contact with aliens has been done hundreds if not thousands of times. It is hard to do this in a fresh and interesting way.
3 Body Problem does manage to do that. Part of it is because we never actually see the aliens and have no concept of what they look like. And although there is an invasion coming, it is still hundreds of years away because of the vast distances of space.
One of the things that I did not think I would like was the video game element. My mind automatically went to an old Star Trek:TNG episode. However, the way it worked out was pretty neat and they avoid the cheesy element.
As a person of faith, I thought the religious elements were quite thought provoking. There were examples of “blind faith” that religious people might want to wrestle with.
My hope is that there is a second season to this as it did not end on a satisfying note. There is much more story that needs to be told.
I should mention that I thought the acting was very well done. There are some familiar faces and the chemistry works well.
So if you have been trying to figure out if you should watch the 3 Body Problem, I say go for it. Your brain might hurt from some of the ideas but it comes together as an enjoyable science fiction story.
