The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – Review
Marvel has gone full tilt when it comes to integrating the MCU movies with its television series. This was kicked off with WandaVision and now we have The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
At the end of Avengers: End Game, the elderly Steve Rogers passed on the mantle and the shield of Captain America to Sam Wilson, the Falcon. This series is about Sam wrestling with that decision.
At the beginning of the series, Sam hands over the shield, not feeling like there could be another Captain America after Steve Rogers. What Sam thought would be a museum piece was used by the government to commission a new Captain America, John Walker.
The Falcon, Winter Soldier, Captain America and even Zemo (from Captain America: Civil War) all become embroiled in a conflict dealing with the resettlement of all the people who have returned from Thanos’s snap. This conflict is led by a group of people who have taken a modified version of the super soldier serum that had transformed Steve Rogers.
This series has plenty of action but it is more than that. It deals with issues of race and of refugees. It deals with those struggling with their past and those struggling with their future. It is about people who try to rectify their mistakes and those who continue to make bad choices.
What the Falcon and the Winter Soldier really did was break down the wall between movies and television series. This series is as good of quality as any of the MCU movie. And like WandaVision, this series leads directly into future MCU movies.
While there were moments when the series dragged, overall it was excellent. It is a quality addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
