Trying to Learn French
I regularly disappoint most Francophones that I encounter. They see my last name (Bedard) and assume that I can speak French. I quickly correct their mistake.
That is not to say that I do not want to learn French. Despite not having even high school French, it has long been on my radar to learn French.
I have been using Duolingo for a number of years and have notice some small improvement. Now, largely because of my military career, I am trying to strengthen this even more.
In addition to going through a grammar and a few other things, I have signed up for a French certificate at Durham College. I am only in the early stages of French 1 but I am enjoying it.
I understand the challenges of learning a second language while in my late fifties. I also am aware that pronunciation is not my strong suit, and I even struggle with some English words.
But I am trying. Even if I am never bilingual, this is a challenge that I have set for myself and I look forward to seeing where this goes.
