Safe Passage
I have previously shared about how our son with autism went missing this week. It was a horrible experience and we are so glad that he was found safe.
However, in the midst of this there was some good news.
Before this, Logan had no safety skills. I have watched him run out in front of cars. Only watchful drivers and a grab of the shirt by me has saved him. When he has ran in the past, he has often run down the middle of the road. The fear has been not just that we would not know where he was but that he would not keep himself safe from cars and other dangers.
When he took off this week, he crossed numerous busy streets. Not only did he survive without injury, someone did see him near the end of his journey. He reported that Logan was stopping at appropriate times and showed awareness of the cars.
This is a huge change in Logan. While we wish he had not run, the good news is that he has developed these skills. We don’t want him to try it again, but we are still proud of him.
