Christians on Twitter/X
Twitter is probably my favourite social media platform at the present time. I use it to share my content, think out loud about issues I’m wrestling with, and connecting with old and new friends.
While Twitter can be a useful and edifying place, it can also be toxic at times. It is not Twitter itself but the way some people behave on Twitter that creates the toxicity.
This includes Christians.
I don’t know if it is the small amount of content that you can post at a time that makes people want to make pronouncements. But for whatever reason, there is tendency for Christians to dismiss, mock, or condemn people as if they have just laid out ultimate judgment.
This is a problem. The problem is not that people disagree. It is the spirit in which it is done. There have been numerous times I have read a tweet and felt embarrassed that I share a religion with that person.
My challenge to you is to consider both the tone and content that you share on Twitter. There are ways for you to share your sincere convictions without being a jerk about it.
Twitter is a place where people, including Christians, can become influential thought leaders. Consider carefully the kinds of thoughts you are leading people to.
