Good News: Rest at the Cottage

Back in September, we purchased a cottage here in Nova Scotia. This has long been a dream of ours and something we can only now afford because we live in the church parsonage.
At the time, we thought of it as a financial investment, as we wanted to continue to build equity. It has become a different kind of investment.
As I have alluded to in previous posts, this is a challenging time for us. After some family discussion, it was agreed that what we needed was a couple of days at the cottage.
I can’t explain fully how I feel when we pull up to the cottage. It is a very modest building but the lot that it sits on is extremely peaceful. I feel a sense of refreshment every time I am there.
For many people, time at the cottage is busy as there are projects to work on or activities to participate in. We just took it easy. We sat by the wood stove, worked on a puzzle, watched a little TV, and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings.
Even when the smoke alarm went off on our last night at 2:00 am, I was able to go outside (to check if there actually was a fire) and see the huge amount of stars in the sky. That too was a blessing.
None of this means that all of our problems are fixed. It does mean that there are glimpses of grace, sometimes in the form of a little cottage tucked away in the woods.
